August Favorites 2013

Hi there!

So, I haven’t done a manicure this week since I’m letting my nails breathe a little.  But instead I have compiled my favorite products for the month of August.

So here it is!

First is the KMS Hair Play modeling paste.  This paste was very handy during the heat waves we had.  In the morning, I would wet my hair a little, take a small amount of this paste in my hands, and then I would spread it all over my hair and put them either in a bun or a braid.  The paste would help me keep all my smaller hairs in place and not in my face (which could become very annoying when you’re sweating a lot!).

My second product is the Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum.  A lot of beauty gurus have sworn my it and I can see why!  It has made my very dry face skin look normal; no more dry patches, dry nose contours, etc.  It’s amazing!  I use it since a couple of months, but during August, I have been using it solely instead of my regular day cream during the hot days.  A little tip for people living where there is Jean-Coutu drugstores; for the same price as one bottle at Sephora, they sell a kit of this regular size bottle, a bottle of the Caudalie Grape Water in a spray, and a sample size of the Caudalie Vinosource moisturizing sorbet.  Talk about a deal!

Another favorite this month has been the Christian Dior Diorskin Poudre Shimmer in Amber Diamond.  It one of the nicest highlighter I’ve tried (you can see a full review that I did here) and you can even use it as eyeshadow for a natural look (see the tutorial from Amarixe).  Since it’s a little bronze, it added a nice healthy shine to my skin.

Another face product is the Stila Sun bronzing powder in shade 01.  It’s perfect for my skin tone and I love that it’s matt.  Another thing I like about this bronzer is that it’s not too pigmented and is very easy to apply in a natural way.

One last cheek favorite is the Tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in the color Tipsy, which is a very bright orange/coral blush.  This color is ho so pretty and screams “summer” when you put it on.  You can see more details about this blush in my review here.

Also, during summer and especially when it’s very hot, I don’t like to put a lot of stuff on my face (such as foundation or powder) so what I like to do is just to put on some concealer in areas that needs it (under eye area, around the nose, redness, etc).  I have been using the Nars stick concealer in Custard for months and it is by far the best!  Good for dry skin, it doesn’t leave any weird patches and this color matches my skin perfectly (I’m about an Mac NC25-30).

Then, just to add to the “natural” look that I have done almost all summer long, I’ve used the Dior Addict lipstick in 214 Tulle.  This lipstick is my FAVORITE ONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD (I know I almost say that to every products…but it’s true!).  Very creamy, very hydrating, lovely package, and it is a MLBB (my lips but better) color.  I have put it on almost every day for at least 3 months and I have not gone through yet!  The only thing is that it’s a bit expensive…but worth it!

We’re almost done!  Next is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on eye pencil in Perversion that I’ve only been putting under my upper lash to define my eye a little more and didn’t need to put on a full eyeliner.  Very black, very easy to apply (very smooth texture) and waterproof.  The only thing is that it doesn’t seem to have a lot of resistance against more oily skin (especially when it’s hot).  So you might want to use a translucent powder with it.  But apart from that, it’s perfect!

AND my last product is the Benefit Cha Cha Tint which is like the Benefit Cherry tint or Posie tint.  But when you open this one, it’s a very bright orange cream and I use it as a lip stain like as if I’ve sucked on a popsicle or something.  I pair it with a nice colorless lip balm and it look very summery!

So that it is for this month!

Don’t hesitate to let me know your favorites so I can discover new products!

July Favorites 2013

Another month has gone, and only one left for summer! (ok, let’s not think about it…)

I wanted to do my favourites for the month of July since I’ve been using some products that I think are worth mentioning.

So here we go.

First of all, of course, for summer you need a really good sunscreen.  I’ve been using this one and it is by far the best I’ve used in my life so far.  First, it is FPS 55, it’s good for both your face and body, it’s not too greasy (so it might even be good for those acne prone persons), it doesn’t leave your skin sticky (which I just hate), and instead of smelling like every other sunscreens, it smells like lilac (which is one of my favourite smell…DIVINE).  I’ve used 2 tubes already.  After trying it, I went to Costco and saw that there was a package of 3 for 15$ (which is the price for once tube at the drugstore).  SOLD!

Then, this month (actually, every months) I used my Bioderma Micelle Solution to take my makeup off (face makeup only).  Almost every Youtube gurus swear by this product and it is really good for sensitive skin; it doesn’t irritate, doesn’t smell, and you don’t even need to rinse (but I do anyways).  This one is a big bottle that I found at my drugstore and what I really like about it is the integrated pump.  You take your cotton pad and just have to pump 2-3 times to get it wet.  It’s magic.  Love it.  When I’ll be out, I’ll just reuse this bottle instead of the smaller ones (which don’t have the pump).

Another product on my list is the Vaseline Spray & Go moisturizer.  I’m one of those who has very dry skin all year long, but I’m also one of those who just HATE putting on moisturizer in the morning.  I hate the time it takes (I don’t know why but it takes me at least 7-10 minutes to put moisturizer all over my body), I hate the sticky feeling it leaves afterwards, and I hate that you have to wait for it to dry/penetrate your skin before you put on your clothes (and I often don’t have time to wait).  So when I saw this new thing, I was really eager to see if it was that special.  So for every person like me out there, this spraying moisturizer is AMAZING; very easy to apply, very nice texture, take 2 minutes for my entire body, dries very fast (doesn’t leave your skin sticky), and smell really good (actually, there’s 3 scents, mine is the yellow one – doesn’t seem to have a name).

Since I was out of my regular hair oil, this month I used my Caudalie Divine Oil, which can be used both for hair and body (but I only used it for my hair so far – let me know if you used it for your body and your impression!).  The smell is just divine and it doesn’t leave your hair too greasy, but you have to be careful with the amount you put in, and gives your hair a very healthy, shiny look.

During the really hot summer days we had during July, my feet became extremely dry and uncomfortable and it was very hard for me to sleep because of that.  So every night before going to sleep, I’ve put on this Curel foot therapy soothing cream all over my feet and it really helped me a lot to ease the dryness.  The texture isn’t too thick also, leave a nice cooling effect, and smells really good.  This cream was my savior.

Also, since I’ve been out a lot and started to have a tan, my usual pressed powder that I used during summer became too pale for me, so I had to switch to this one, Revlon Nearly Naked in 020 light pale, which I’ve never used before (new from this year).  It was in a pack with the same colour liquid foundation.  I really hoped it would suit my complexion (since I couldn’t try it out at the drugstore).  At the beginning of July it was a bit too dark, but because gradually just the perfect match for my skin and it looks very natural.  It comes with a little pad, which I don’t use.

Then my next product is one that I’ve been using for a while, but this month it really was a savior for my dry lips.  It is the Dior Crème de Rose smoothing balm.  I apply this just before going to sleep and I wake up with nice hydrated lips.  The texture is really thick, a bit like Vaseline, so I don’t put much on, and it has a really nice and strong rose smell (and taste…).  When I take it off in the shower, it leaves my towel yellow, but it doesn’t stain my pillow or anything.  It is also FPS 10 and says to be plumping (which I didn’t really see).

Another lip product I’ve loved using, but during the day, is my Holika Holika Juicy Shine lip balm in grapefruit.  It is really nice to keep my lips hydrated during the day, it also gives a nice coral tint to my lips, and it smells really good, just like a real grapefruit.

During the summer days, I don’t like putting a lot of makeup (like I think everybody), especially on my eyes since I tend to get more greasy during summer.  So this month I’ve been keeping it simple and only have put on my Urban Decay Cannonball mascara, which is, by the way, every asian’s lashes best friend.  It is waterproof, so perfect for sweaty weather, and since it’s waterproof, it holds my curls VERY nicely.  It is THE best mascara I’ve tried so far and I owe it to Jen from fromheadtotoe that started using it a while ago and convinced me to try it out.

And finally, to combine with my mascara, I finished my simple makeup by doing my brows with my Lioele Auto Eyebrow pencil in grey ashes.  It is a double ended pencil; on one side your fill in your brows (and it is an auto-sharpening end, which I like), and on the other side your can brush them with a spooly.  The pen is not too pigmented and is perfect for my dark hair.

So that’s it for my favourites of the month!

Which products were your favourites?

Review :: Highlighters

Good Friday everyone!

So since I’m still on a nail polish break (I’m so sad…), I thought of doing a little review for this week; highlighters!

So over the last year or so, I’ve gathered a bunch of different highlighters that either seemed very nice of that I’ve heard of from beauty gurus.

Also, I took the pictures outside to be able to capture the shininess of the highlighters, but you will see that sometimes…it’s easier said than done…

So here it is!

First, is the Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette which has a blush, a bronzer and a highlighter.

The highlighter of this palette is a very soft pink champagne shimmer and is VERY pigmented (you barely need to touch it). I feel that for me it was a little too shimmery/glittery and pink for my skin tone, but still I think it is quite handy and nice in this palette and would suite a lot of skin colours.

Next on the list is the Diorskin Shimmer Star in Amber Diamond.  This one is one of my favourite highlighter of all time and is very worth the hype.

First of all, it come it this nice little velvet pouch, and the case is so nice and chic.  The highlighter is embossed and has 5 colours; ivory/ champagne/ tan/ bronze/ peach.  It is the perfect highlighter for summer since it give a nice bronze/tan colour on your cheek without being glittery.  When applied, you skin just looks so healthy and nice, it’s an instant boost.  You can even use it as eyeshadow like Amarixe did in one of her summer makeup look! It is a very versatile highlighter and even if it’s kind of a splurge for some, I think it’s worth it because you’ll wear it to death.

Then I have the Lioele Marbling Blusher in #02 Lovely Pink.

First of all, for those who are wondering, Lioele is a well know and well reputed Korean brand.  So, I bought a couple of Lioele’s product beforehand (which you can see the review here) and thought that I would give a try to this one too.  First, the packaging is just so cute and adorable (just like any Korean/Japanese products).  You also have a brush that comes with it (which I do use).  The product is said to be a blush, but since I find it really more like a highlighter (more glittery than colourful) I do use it as one.  It is a nice soft pink colour and is not too glittery.  I like to pair it with a very pink blush so it looks as one.  It also has a nice floral scent to it.

Moreover, I purchased a very long time ago, in one of my Cherry Culture Haul (you can see the post here) a Nyx highlighter that Jen from fromheadtotoe was giving a lot of praise about it.

It’s the Nyx Mosaic Powder in 01 Highlighter.  This one is a more neutral highlighter than all of the above, but is still more on the cooler tone.  It is very inexpensive and looks very natural since it’s from shimmery.

Then, I got this Benefit “What’s Up” sample size highlighter when I went to Sephora during my birthday (it was the birthday gift with a Benefit mascara).

I was pretty happy to receive this one because Claire Marshall did mention it in her videos and said that she really liked it a lot.  And I do admit that it looks really natural and does not have too much glitters in it.  The colour is a nice bronze/champagne colour, and unlike the other highlighters, is has more like a cream finish so I apply it with my finger.  And even if it’s very small compare to the real size one, it last very long!

We’re almost done here, only two left!  So the next one is, also from Benefit, is the High Beam Highlighter (also in a sample size).

I really like this one because even if it looks pretty pink, it just gives a nice healthy and natural look to your skin.  It comes in a little bottle (like a nail polish) and also has an applicator with a brush.  I just dab it onto the areas of my face and then spread it gently with my fingers.

And finally, my last purchase was the Benefit Moon Beam.

I heard from Jen in one of her reviews how she liked it and was very different from all the other highlighters, so I decided to get it.  At a first glance, it looks pretty beige, but when you apply it, the colour disappear and become just a nice pink iridescent finish on your skin (it was pretty hard to capture in the photo…).  I have to admit, it is really one of my favourite highlighter and when you have it on, your skin looks so healthy and glowy from within.  Like, the High Beam, it come with an applicator.

So just to wrap up my review, here are the highlighters I mentioned in order of preference:

  1. Diorskin Poudre Shimmer in Amber Diamond
  2. Benefit Moon Beam
  3. Benefit What’s Up
  4. Benefit High Beam
  5. Nyx Mosaic Powder in 01 Highlighter
  6. Lioele Marbling Blusher in #02 Lovely Pink
  7. Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette (highlighter)

Have a nice weekend!

REVIEW :: Tarte Blushes

Good day to you all!

Since I’m having a little trouble with my nails right now, I’m taking a break for my manicure this week (hopefully only this week).

But I didn’t want to leave you with nothing (after being quite absent for a while…).

So instead I’m doing a review on some of the Tarte blushes I’ve purchases a while ago and thought were worth reviewing:

The Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blushes.

So the first one I’ve purchased was the Exposed.

After viewing a review from Jen of frmheadtotoe on Youtube, I was quite curious about it since she said that it looked very flattering and could serves both as a bronzer and blush (for the lazy ones).  In the pan, I admit it looks quite brown and we wouldn’t think that it could be a blush.  But when applied on the cheeks (actually, I apply it more like a contour), it slims the face and adds a nice natural pink tone to the face.  Since I have more of a yellow tone skin (around NC25-30) it shows pretty well on my skin tone and I’m sure on more fair ones (might even show a little more pink than me).  Also, I’ve used it quite a lot and I still didn’t go through it yet.

Then I was so impressed by those blushes that I wanted to buy more! But which one? I don’t know if you’ve seen but there is a LOT of choice…but I then saw a review of Essie Button wearing  Natural Beauty on her very fare skin and I thought it looked soooo pretty and nice that I purchased it.

So not like Exposed, this blush is very pigmented and so you really need to have a light hand when applying it or you’ll end up looking very easily like a clown…but when applied the right way, it is a gorgeous.  The color is a very deep raspberry red and looks as pretty on light complexion than yellower ones (even probably on dark ones!).

And then I wanted one that would be very summery and different from the two I already had, so I went back and bought Tipsy and Dollface (actually this one was sold in a kit with a Tarte bronzer – the reason why it’s smaller).

So Tipsy is a nice orange blush that, when applied, is more like coral than expected.  I would also say that as for the pigmentation, it is not quite like Natural beauty but shows quite nicely.  And for Dollface, it’s a pretty pale doll pink that suits all complexions I’m sure.

I also forgot to mention that all the blushes I’ve mentioned are matt and do not have any sparkles in it (which looks more natural).

I’m very VERY satisfied with the ones I bought and still think to purchase another one…anyone has any recommandations?

A palette to rule them all

A palette to rule them all

Having multiple individual eyeshadows, blushes, powders, and so on can be a pain in the butt when you try to find something in a pile.

That was my problem.  So I went online and did some research about something that would help me gather all my individual beauty products (at least the majority of them) into one “container”.

So I found the Unii Palette!

Reviewed by Jen of frmheadtotoe (yes, again), I decided to order two of them, just to try them out.

First, having to choose only two colors from all those pretty pastel palettes was very hard…but I told myself that I would probably have to purchase some more in the future so…

I choose the yellow (my favorite color) and black (‘cause it’s more chic!).

A palette to rule them all-2

Basically, they are made of hard plastic with a cover that snaps (so no fear that the palette will open in your bag), the inside has a big mirror, and the bottom is a big a magnet.  You even have a little “thing” (sorry, don’t really know the word for it) that you can move around and that allows you to put your thumb on it to hold the palette properly.  Each Unii palette comes with a sheet of sticky magnet that you can cut into the desired shape and stick under the de-potted makeup that are not made of metal (which for my part was the majority of them!).  Also, the nice thing with the magnetic sheet is that you can write the name of the shadow on it so you can know which is which in your palette.  And one last little thing, I don’t know if you can see properly, but each palette has little glitters on top, which is just very cute!

A palette to rule them all-4

So, in my yellow one, I’ve gathered all my different blushes and highlighters (the NYX blushes were in a Nyx special edition palette set that I got in one of my Glossybox, and they didn’t have any name…):

  1. Nyx blush
  2. Nyx blush
  3. Nyx blush
  4. Nyx blush
  5. Benefit Coralista blush
  6. Nyx highlighter
  7. E.L.F. Shimmer palette
  8. Nyx eyeshadow
  9. Nyx eyeshadow
  10. Nyx eyeshadow

A palette to rule them all-3

In my black palette, I wanted to put some individual eyeshadows that I have:

  1. Stila
  2. Nyx Baby blue
  3. Nyx eyeshadow
  4. MAC Club
  5. MAC Vex
  6. Nyx Deep brown
  7. Nyx Eggplant
  8. MAC Satin taupe
  9. Nyx eyeshadow
  10. L’Oréal Raven
  11. Nyx Purple
  12. Nyx Deep Orange
  13. Lise Watier (don’t have the name)

A palette to rule them all-5

So, I really like them so far, they’re not too big, very sturdy and pretty.  I will have to purchase more…(so much for my budget), but they are pretty inexpensive for the quality I think.

I also like that I can now have (almost) all my single eyeshadows in one place…it makes it easier and faster in the morning.  Ho and one more little thing that is pretty handy; in the back of the box that holds the Unii Palette, there is some tricks on how to de-pot your eyeshadows!  How nice…

So if you’re looking for a palette like that, I really really recommend these ones!

Manicure Monday

I am warning you; this post will be a bit longer than usual since I’ve tried some new awesome things that I wanted to review!

So first for my nails, I’ve put the L’Oréal 560 Greycian Goddess nail polish on all fingers.  The color is a cool purply grey that has medium opacity (you definitely need at least 2 coats for it to be full opaque) but I did put only 2 and it ended up just perfect.  Let me just tell you that it is the shiniest polish I’ve ever seen!  You don’t need anything else to make it shinier, and it also dries very fast!  Perfect for clumsy girls like me.  Then finally I’ve put my new top coat, the Sally Hansen Diamond Flash fast dry top coat.  I really like it and makes my nails more shiny and strong (even if I didn’t need it that time around).

Then to achieve the little matt polka dots, I’ve put the Sephora by OPI matt top coat with my nail dotting tool form Quo by Orly.  I don’t really know a lot about matt polishes but I pretty like this one because it does the job, looks good, and dries fast.  What else do you need!

So my last new thing that I’ve tried out is the Sephora Instant Nail Polish Remover.  A while ago, my cousin/godmother told me about a nail polish remover at Sephora that removes all of your polish in less than a minute.  So when I went to the store some days ago and I saw this little bottle on the shelves next to the nail polishes, I decided to try it out (it couldn’t be worst than regular remover that you put on a cotton ball and that you have to rub forever to remove everything…).  IT IS MAGIC!  It’s the most amazing nail polish remover EVER I tell you.  You just put your finger in (the inside is a big sponge with a little hole in the middle), wait 45 seconds to a minute, and then Voilà!  All your nail polish is gone!  Even the dark ones and glitter nail polishes!  The only thing I don’t know is how many time I can use this (if ever someone knows, please tell me!).  But I think I’m gonna go and buy a second one just in case!  However, if you have a cut or something on one of your fingers…well…you know the rest!

Glossybox: January 2013

For this month’s box, I was a bit disappointed.

Not that it is all bad in itself, but since the two previous boxes were so nice and interesting, the January box just seems a bit plain (in my opinion).

So first, there is a Wella Professionals Brilliance Leave-in mousse, in full size.  I never really put any products in my hair (apart from oil), but I like having different kinds of hair products just in case, and Wella is also well known for their quality products.  The only thing that was disappointing for me was that the mousse is for colored hair (which I don’t have).  I don’t know if it is a real problem, but that thing is that we fill in a beauty profile when we subscribe and they ask what type of hair/skin/etc we have.  So I find that it’s disappointing to receive a product for something that I didn’t say I had.

Then, I also received a small (very very small) lip gloss from Too Faced.  I like Too Face products!  I’ve never tried their lip gloss, but I’ve see very good reviews about their lipsticks.  For sure, the lip gloss in the box is a tiny portion of the real one (see below), but it’s okay.  It’s a good travel size!  The only little thing that I might not like is the smell, which is very strong (fruity).  But we’ll see!  Hope we’re going to receive more Too Faced products!

Next is Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk&Honey body lotion.  I like Burt’s Bees products too, and lotions in general since my skin tends to dry so much during winter.  But the scent of this body lotion, which smells like plastic, is very disturbing and wouldn’t want to smell that the entire day.  So I guess that this little tube will have a new owner soon!

I also received a Nivea Essential Lip balm, which is nice since I also like their lip balms, but thought that it was a bit “boring”, meaning that I like receiving products that I just wouldn’t buy/test by my own, but this lip balm is very generic and “easy to please”.  And also the fact that I have a million of lip balms…BUT!  I will still keep this one because I do like it!

The other product that was in my box is a Vitabath Hand cream.  I’ve received in one of my previous boxes a bath/shower gel that I really liked, so I was very happy to find another product of the same brand.  Again, the only thing that throws me off is the scent.  Okay, yes I’m sensitive to very scented products, but this one also smells like plastic, or like a fake orange in plastic.

Then the last product is some Beauty So Clean cosmetic sanitizing wipes.  I remember of already receiving this production during the summer and I found it very useful (which they are).  Basically, they are little wipes that you can use to sanitize you makeup (pressed powder, lipsticks, eyeshadows, etc) so no bacteria goes onto it and then on your face.  I wouldn’t use them every time I use an item, but from time to time, it’s nice to be able to clean them up. Yes, it’s a bit disappointing of receiving the product AGAIN, but since they’re useful…I guess it’s okay.

So I do find this month’s box a bit disappointing compared to the previous ones, and also since that I won’t use 2 out of the 6 items, and that one is off based on my profile (the mousse), I only hope that the next one will be better!
